Shoshone Falls is a natural wonder found right here in Twin Falls, Idaho. It’s a true bucket list item to behold. It’s higher than Niagra Falls and nicknamed, “The Niagra Falls Of The West.”

Shoshone Falls is one of the easiest waterfalls to get to, too. No hiking is needed to see this magnificent waterfall up close and personal. Visiting during peak water flow season is important, if you want to see the falls in all its glory.

Distance from Twin Falls Cottages – 6.9 Miles.

As Summer Comes To An End…

Expect less water during the summer months. Waterfall flow reduce more as July and August arrive. This photo was taken during the month of September. The flow will continue to dwindle until it appears dry during Autumn and Winter months.

Nature has cycles and if you decide to visit Shoshone Falls during Autumn and/or Winter, there may be a good chance that you’ll see the stone walls of Shoshone Falls instead of the water famously tumbling down the cliff walls.

Annual Shoshone Falls After Dark Laser & Music Show

Shoshone Falls After Dark is an annual laser show event. Moving laser colors are projected onto the canvas of water and set to music. Similar to watching the Northern Lights (when viewable in Idaho), the laser show is most vibrant when seen through a cell phone camera or digital camera. To see the presentation in person, with the naked eye, I personally found the display to be quite pale in color. It looks completely different when viewed through the lens of digital technology!

Shoshone Falls is an ever changing natural wonder throughout the year!

Late Spring To Early Summer

Spring is generally the best time to visit the falls. As snowpack begins to melt between Western Wyoming and Idaho, the falls begin to flow.

Early Summer is generally still a good time to visit, too.

As summer progresses, the falls tend to slow down, as some of the Snake River is diverted for irrigation. This diverting of water reduces the flow tumbling over the falls.

As Autumn approaches, Shoshone Falls will appear nearly dry. During this time, water flowing down the Snake River is used to replenish the reservoir system upstream of Shoshone Falls.

Annual Shoshone Falls After Dark laser & music show – If you are planning to visit during our annual Shoshone Falls After Dark event, then generally you will want to plan your trip during the month of May. Check to confirm annual dates.

Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the park. Entrance fees to the park include access to Dierkes Lake and Hidden Lake where locals enjoy swimming and cliff jumping into the lakes. Dogs kept on a leash are welcome everywhere in the park, except for the grassy area of Dierkes lake.

A nominal park entrance fee provides access to Shoshone Falls, Dierkes Lake and Hidden Lake. At time of writing, the entrance fee is $5 per car load. The Annual Shoshone Falls After Dark event is usually in the month of May and requires additional reservations fees.
